Well my sister packed up and went home :( so Zaidee lost her favorite playmate, and I lost my housekeeper/caregiver. Zaidee loves other kids so it was really fun to have Ellie here for her to chase around and play with. Zaidee has been saying lots of words and she is starting to learn how to put her words together, the other day she said "more bubbles", and "baby Ro" (for Rosie). She is really into saying Mommy, Mommy, Mommy! She runs around the house saying it. And she will ask me for things by pointing and saying Mommy! Thing have been a bit crazy, I'm just trying to get used to being a momma to two. I feel like I started to get into the grove of things today. Rosie is doing really well, she is a great eater, and she is a pretty chill baby.
Here is little Rosie's birth story for all of those who have asked. On Friday afternoon I went to see my midwife and she stripped my membranes, immediately after I had a back ache. Late that afternoon Adam went to the hospital (a different one than the one I delivered at) to work a 16 hour overnight shift. By that evening my back was killing me but I wasn't sure if it was just from having my membranes swept. Late that evening I could tell I was having intense back labor. My contractions were all in my back and killed! I wanted to try and wait it out til morning so Adam didn't have to worry about me or try to get off. But by 2:00 AM my back was killing so I called my momma-in-law to come watch Zaidee and my niece Ellie and my sister took me to the hospital. By the time we got there I was dying to get the epidural. It felt like someone was twisting my spine and stabbing knives in my hips and lower back. I was dilated to a 4. The anesthesiologist came in to give me an epidural, he poked me twice and told me to call him back if I didn't go numb after a half hour. Forty minutes later I called my nurse back and told her it wasn't working. The anesthesiologist finally came back after another hour of pain. He tried to get the right spot for forty minutes but couldn't get it so he called another anesthesiologist to come try. It was horrible to have to sit there curled up during contractions while they poked around. Finally after eight attempts they got the right spot. It was almost 5am at this point and just after they got the right spot Adam came walking in. I was so happy to see him! I just tried to relax for the next several hours. I was progressing about 1 centimeter every 2 hours. At around 8am my mom-in-law got there and we all just hung out in my room. At 1pm my water broke and by 3:30pm they were ready to take me back to the OR to start pushing. I had to deliver in the OR because she was breech. There were 22+ doctors and nurses in there to help if needed. Plus several nurses looking in through a window from the NICU into the OR. At around 4pm I started pushing and she was born at 5:49pm. Once her bum and legs came out she popped right out. It was funny because there were so many people in there that when I was pushing and she'd start to come out it was like a roaring crowd. I am so glad that she is here and safe and that I was able to forgo a C section. Rosie is doing great. She's a great eater and sleeper already! And Zaidee is enjoying being a big sis :)
.....we met Zaidee for the first time. She was so so small, 9 lbs at four months. It's hard to tell from the picturesbecauseshe is so long but she was tinsy.
Here is the best pic I have showing how small she was. Look at those skinny legs.
She loved sucking her thumbfor comfort when she was tired. And she still does at night when she's sleepy, I don't have it in me to break the habit because it's so cute and sweet and I know it was such a comfort to her when she was in an orphanage and had to self sooth herself.
She loved to snuggle close and be held. It took a few days for her to really open up, we couldn't get her to smile at first she just wanted to be cuddled. But after a few days it was easy to get a smile out of her :) Some not so fun things, she had horrible cradle cap, a big flaky patch on top of her head that she would itch while sucking her thumb. And she couldn't keep anything down, hence her being so small. She threw up constantly. Poor little lamb.
Here she is all lit up, so happy her momma and daddy were here to cuddle her constantly.
Here is sweet Zaidee today. She is 16 months old and the most energetic, fun loving little toddler. She loves her knew little sis so much! She gets so excited when she gets to hold her and help out, it melts this mommas heart :) I can't believe that within a year I became a momma to two beautiful little girls.
Today is my due date so here are some pics of my huge 40 week belly. Some times when I hold Zaidee I perch her on my baby bump like this. Pretty much I've just been relaxing and my sister has been spoiling me. I've had lots of phone calls and my Grandma came over and brought us lunch and we played with babes. I think I've tried everything but anyone have any tips on how to induce labor?
I was craving some good Ethiopian food (I haven't gotten that good at cooking it myself, boo hoo) So we headed over to our favorite local joint. mmmmmm it was sooooo good!
Is there anything better than snuggling and taking a long nap with your little one? I honestly can't think of anything, when she starts waking up and cuddling I just look at her, give her lots of kisses, and get a little weepy thinking how lucky I am.
We had a huge snow storm here and Zaidee loved it!
Here I am at 39 weeks. I'll be 40 on Thursday, I hope she comes soon! Everything is set for me to have this baby breech.
I am a Flight Attendant and Adam is an ophthalmology resident at the U of U. We brought home our beautiful daughter from Ethiopia in april 2012. And we are expecting another little girl in January. Follow us on our journey!
